Murder, Wildfire, and a New Villain Open 'Dutton Ranch' Premiere

Introducing "Dutton Ranch"

The highly anticipated spin-off series "Dutton Ranch" premiered on May 15, offering fans a glimpse into the lives of Beth Dutton and Rip Wheeler as they embark on a new chapter. The first episode, titled "The Untold Want," begins with Beth, portrayed by Kelly Reilly, and Rip, played by Cole Hauser, enjoying a peaceful life on their Montana ranch following the events of the "Yellowstone" series finale.

However, this tranquility is short-lived when a wildfire devastates their ranch, forcing them to relocate to Texas in search of better opportunities. They acquire a historic 100-year-old ranch in the fictional town of Rio Paloma, where they start anew.

The Jackson Family

As Beth and Rip settle into their new home, the audience is introduced to the Jackson family, who own the 10 Petal Ranch. Beulah Jackson, played by Annette Bening, is the matriarch of the family, known for her strong-willed and no-nonsense demeanor. Her eldest son, Juaquin, portrayed by Juan Pablo Raba, is a sophisticated businessman who manages the ranch operations. In contrast, Rob-Will, played by Jai Courtney, is the younger son and ranch foreman, whose rough edges often lead him into trouble, including a scandalous incident involving racial slurs.

When Rob-Will murders one of his ranch hands after discovering the man's involvement in shady dealings, Juaquin is left to manage the aftermath and deal with the grieving wife. Additionally, the audience meets Oreana, played by Natalie Alyn Lind, Rob-Will’s daughter and Beulah’s granddaughter. Beulah hopes Oreana will one day take over the ranch, but Oreana seems more interested in her relationship with Carter, played by Finn Little, Beth and Rip’s quasi-adopted son.

Plot Developments in the First Two Episodes

In the early episodes, Beth sets out to find a butcher for her steer, only to be met with a condition from Beulah that requires a share of the profits, which Beth finds unacceptable. On her way home, she encounters a car accident involving an injured horse. There, she meets local veterinarian Everett McKinney, played by Ed Harris, whom she convinces to save the animal. Their friendship grows as he helps Beth find a new butcher.

Rip's experience in Texas is equally eventful. He has a confrontation with Rob-Will and later discovers the body of the murdered ranch hand on his property. He decides to hide the body, keeping it a secret from Beth. The second episode delves deeper into the Jackson family dynamics, particularly the relationship between Beulah and Oreana, as well as the growing tension between Juaquin and Rob-Will as they search for the body and discover it has been moved.
