Hurricanes' Celebration Honors Team Unity Behind Stanley Cup Triumph
A New Era for the Carolina Hurricanes
When Tom Dundon, the owner of the Carolina Hurricanes, hired Rod Brind’Amour as head coach in 2018, the goal was clear: to create a team that would bring pride to the Raleigh community. Brind’Amour, who had previously won the Stanley Cup with the Canes in 2006, took on the challenge during a time when the franchise was enduring a nine-season playoff drought. Eight seasons later, the Canes have not only made the playoffs every year under his leadership but also achieved something historic—winning the 2026 Stanley Cup.
During the Canes' 2026 Championship Celebration, the players and staff reflected on the journey that brought them to this moment. The celebration included a parade through downtown Raleigh, drawing an enormous crowd that stretched from City Plaza to the North Carolina State Capitol. The energy and excitement were palpable, showcasing the deep connection between the team and the city.

A Celebration of Teamwork and Unity
The event was filled with moments of joy and camaraderie, as players and staff expressed their gratitude for the opportunity to win the Cup. One of the most memorable aspects of the celebration was the way the team’s unity shone through. Players even brought their children onto the stage, with some of them playing games like shooting water guns into the crowd. Jordan Staal’s son even took his shirt off to lead a "tarps off" moment, highlighting the fun and lighthearted nature of the occasion.
Staal himself praised Brind’Amour, calling him the “best human being” he has ever met. He highlighted the coach’s work ethic, especially during early mornings. Staal also spoke about the bond among the teammates, emphasizing that the success of the team was due to the contributions of everyone involved.

A Night of Fun and Reflection
The celebration continued with players tossing beverages into the crowd, creating an atmosphere of pure joy. Left winger Jordan Martinook often stole the microphone to energize the audience, introducing his teammates in a way that resembled a karaoke bar. Sebastian Aho and Martinook even led a Staal chant together, showing the team's close-knit relationships.
Jaccob Slavin took the microphone and received a loud chant of “USA,” referencing the 2026 Olympic gold medal-winning men’s hockey team. However, Slavin made it clear that the achievement with the Canes meant more to him than any Olympic honor. “Winning a Stanley Cup with this team right here and this city, there’s nothing better, baby,” he said. He added, “I can’t wait to be a Hurricane the rest of my life.”

Captivating the Triangle
The Hurricanes have captured the attention of the Triangle region over the past few weeks, with their championship celebration being one of the most significant events in the area. One couple even delayed their wedding to attend the festivities. General manager Eric Tulsky shared how he often interacts with fans at tailgates and during intermissions, which he finds rewarding. He noted that other executives find it surprising, but he sees no issue with it.
Tulsky also mentioned that several players thanked him for bringing them to Raleigh after winning the Cup. Nicolas Deslauriers, who signed a two-year contract on stage, was one of them. Taylor Hall, who joined the team via trade in January 2025, described the atmosphere at his first game as energizing. Hall recorded 48 points this season, the highest since his 61-point campaign with the Boston Bruins in 2021-22.
A Historic Celebration
According to Raleigh Police, over 150,000 people attended the event, breaking the city’s record for the largest gathering in one place. For Brind’Amour, the team’s togetherness is what makes the victory so meaningful. “Hockey is the greatest team sport in the world,” he said, reflecting on the journey that brought the Hurricanes to this historic moment.
