George Clooney's 'Tall and Handsome' Bond Pick Revealed
George Clooney Endorses Callum Turner for James Bond Role
George Clooney has made his voice heard in the ongoing debate about who should take on the iconic role of James Bond. Fans of the long-running spy franchise have been eagerly awaiting the announcement of the next actor to step into 007's shoes, following Daniel Craig's final appearance in No Time to Die in 2021. The casting process has been delayed due to a shift in control of the franchise to Amazon MGM Studios, which confirmed that the search for the next Bond is "underway."
Clooney, 65, has taken a stand for 36-year-old Callum Turner, whom he describes as "tall and handsome." This endorsement comes after casting director Nina Gold, who is reportedly leading the search for the next Bond, hinted at the need for an actor with "sex appeal" across several films.

A Star in the Making
Turner, known for his role in the Fantastic Beasts franchise, has been frequently mentioned in Bond betting circles alongside actors like Aaron Taylor-Johnson, Harris Dickinson, and Jacob Elordi. Clooney, who worked with Turner on the 2023 historical drama The Boys in the Boat, has publicly supported the actor for the role.
"I hope Callum ends up being the next Bond. I think he would be a great Bond," Clooney told The Hollywood Reporter. "He's tall and handsome and charming and British, so he's the perfect guy to do it."
Clooney also praised Turner's career choices, noting that he has avoided easy paychecks and instead pursued meaningful work. "Somehow Callum has weaved his way through all of the noise and found a place where people look at him and go, 'There's something with this young man,'" he said.

The Challenges of Being a Leading Man
Clooney reflected on how the role of a leading man has evolved over the years. "Speaking as an older guy now, it's interesting how much more difficult it is than it was back in the day," he said. "It's just harder. Talk to any big-time producer or big-time director: They're constantly going, 'Who's a leading man now? Who's the one?'"
Despite the challenges, Clooney believes Turner has what it takes. "I can't explain it, but I know it when I see it," he said.

Turner Remains Cautious
While Clooney has expressed his support for Turner, the actor himself has remained tight-lipped about the speculation. When asked if he would want to take on the role if offered, Turner responded, "I wouldn't comment on whether I would want to sign on as Bond if the role was offered to me."
However, he added, "I'll tell you what's so funny about the Bond thing: Even your best friends ask you, people text you that you haven't spoken to for 10 years - and you know nothing!"
Casting Director's Vision
During an interview with Deadline on May 16, casting director Nina Gold outlined the key qualities the next Bond must possess. She emphasized that the actor must "ooze sex appeal" while also being a capable performer. Additionally, the chosen star needs to be young enough to commit to multiple Bond films.
Gold’s comments followed a statement from Amazon MGM Studios on May 14, which said, "The search for the next James Bond is underway. While we don't plan to comment on specific details during the casting process, we're excited to share more news with 007 fans as soon as the time is right."
Amazon MGM Studios' head of film, Courtenay Valenti, addressed the prolonged wait for the casting announcement during a presentation at Las Vegas' CinemaCon on April 15. "Please know that we're taking the time to do this with care and deep respect. It is the dream of a lifetime for all of us to bring audiences this next chapter, and it's a responsibility we don't take lightly," she said.
Valenti also shared production details, including Amy Pascal and David Heyman as producers, Dennis Villeneuve as director, Tanya Lapointe as executive producer, and Steven Knight as screenwriter. While Amazon MGM Studios has not officially confirmed Gold’s role, outlets such as Variety and Deadline reported on May 14 that she would serve as casting director for the upcoming film.
The new Bond film will continue the story of the iconic spy, picking up where Daniel Craig’s 15-year portrayal left off across five films. Craig’s final appearance as Bond was in No Time to Die in 2021.
